Sankranti Sun-God begins journey to Northern Hemisphere
Makar Sankranti is the day when the glorious Sun-God begins its ascendancy and entry into the Northern Hemisphere and thus it signifies an event wherein the Sun-God seems to remind their children that 'Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya'- may you go higher & higher, to more & more Light and never to Darkness.
To Hindus, the Sun stands for knowledge, spiritual light and wisdom. Makar Sankranti signifies that we should turn away from the darkness of delusion in which we live, and begin to enjoy a new life with bright light within us to shine brighter and brighter. We should gradually begin to grow in purity, wisdom, and knowledge, even as the Sun does from the Day of Makar Sankranti.
The festival of Makar Sankranti is highly regarded by the Hindus from North to down South. The day is known by various names and a variety of traditions are witnessed as one explores the festival in different states.
Considering the winter solstice marks the beginning of the gradual increase of the duration of the day. Scientifically, the shortest day of the year is around December 21–22 after which the days begin to get longer, hence actual Winter Solstice begins on December 21 or December 22 when the tropical sun enters Makara rashi. Hence actual Uttarayana is December 21. This was the actual date of Makar Sakranti too. But because of the Earth's tilt of 23.45 degrees and sliding of equinoxes, Ayanamsa occurs. This has caused Makara Sankranti to slide further over the ages.

Why Makar Sankranti is given special importance?
Why Makar Sankranti is given
special importance?
From all the transit’s, Makar Sankranti is treated as special and is given unique importance. There are several factors that contribute toward it. On Makar Sankranti, sun becomes Uttarayana (northward apparent migration of sun), it indicates that from now onward auspicious time commences. If we calculate astronomically, Makar Sankranti takes place 21 days after the winter solstice (December 20–23), approximately. The day indicates the northward journey of sun. From winter solstice, the days start becoming longer. Winter solstice begins on 21st December or on 22nd and on this day sun enters the zodiac sign Capricorn. Uttarayana falls on December 21 and earlier this was the actual date of Makar Sankranti. But, our Earth has a tilt of 23.45 degrees and sliding of equinoxes, which causes the occurrence of Ayanamsa.
Makar Sankranti is a special festival as it marks the commencement of auspicious time of the year. Make the best out of this day. Happy Makar Sankranti 2013

Satavahana Dynasty
Satavahana Dynasty
Indian family that, according to some interpretations based on the Puranas belonged to the Andhrajati and was the first Deccanese dynasty to build an empire in daksinapatha . The Satavahanas rose to power in Maharashtra around 200 B.C. They remained in power, for about 400 years. Almost the whole of present day Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and South India were under Satavahana rule. Paithan in Maharashtra, formerly called Pratishthan, was the capital of the Satavahanas. The founder of the Satvahanas was Simuka. But the man who raised it to eminence was Satakarni I. Sri Yajna Satakarni was the last great king in this dynasty. After him, the empire began to decline.
Gautamiputra Satakarni was the famous king during the Satvahana dynasty. He defeated the Sakas (Scythians), Yavanas (Greeks) and Pahlavas (Parithans). His empire extended upto Banavasi in the south, and included Maharashtra, Konkan, Saurashtra, Malwa, west Rajasthan and Vidharbha. His son, Vasishtiputra, ruled at Paithan on the banks of Godavari.

Telugu Krishna on Mysore coin
The contribution of Wodeyars of Mysore for the cause of education in Karnataka is very significant and invaluable. The services rendered by His Highness Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar for comprehensive development of Karnataka is indeed phenomenal. He is the founding father and the first Chancellor of the University of Mysore, one of the oldest Universities in the country, established in 1916.

The Brahmi script used by Mauryan kings eventually reached Krishna River delta and gave rise to Bhattiprolu script found on the urn containing Buddha's relics. Buddhism spread to world from the nearby ports of Ghantasala and Masulipatnam (ancient Maisolos of Ptolemy and Masalia of Periplus). The Bhattiprolu Brahmi script evolved into the Telugu script by 5th century C.E.BUT EARLIAR RECORDS SHOW TELUGU WORDS USED FROM 800 BC.
